Oh Wow, it's been over a month since last post.....no surprise there really!
Yes folks, it has been over a month since my last post. Not that things have really been that busy, I have for the most part been that lazy!
To bring things up to speed:
I have plants started in the greenhouse, seven flats to be exact. Some flowers and lots of vegetables. Most are doing well, but there are some that I need to redo. That should be my project for today.
I have started having friends over on Mondays for a spinning "class". There are four and we spend the afternoon, working, talking and learning about spinning. We have good fun.
Last Monday, "class" was canceled because my son and his children were coming for a visit. It was a good time. We played with the chickens and out in the barn. Set up the pop up tent camper, so Jeremiah could see how that works and looks. He is thinking about buying a camper/RV. Four little ones all wanting to visit can sure wear a person out! On Tuesday I did NOTHING! I was wore out. But we did have lots of fun!
March 16th there was no school, teacher workshop or something. This is also Daniella's birthday, so she spent the night Tuesday and then Mommy, Daddy, Uncle Pat, Aunt Jenn, Grandpa and I all had pizza, salad, and ice cream and cake for dinner. She also got her Birthday presents then too. Another good time with the grands!
We've had a couple of storms, one of considerable snow and the other, most resent, Ice!
The critter population has inceased around here, as of one week ago we have another dog. I should say puppy. Her name is Anya and she is a registered German Shepherd Dog. She is the same color as our Isabeau, but we suspect that she will be larger. At 7 weeks old, Anya weighs in at 13 pounds. Isabeau at 9 weeks only weighed 11 pounds.
Isabeau is going a good job of being "Mommy Dog", just like she does for the goat kids. She can be a little strong in her discipline sometimes, but for the most part she is doing a good job. She likes having a playmate some of the time.
The goats are doing well. The two that are expecting are now showing signs. The Alpine is getting a big belly and the Toggenburg who has never kidded before is developing an udder. Neither is due until May, so we have a while yet before kids come.
I went to this years "Spring Goat Day at MSU". Always a good time along with good food and great people. I sat in on a wonderful discussion on Linear Appraisal and how to use it to improve your herd. Got some get information.
While there I was also recruited to do some Convention help. First off I will be doing a demonstration on spinning. Another woman and myself will be working together to show how to use the fiber from Angora Goats.
Then I was also recruited to help with the Hospitality Room on Thursday at Convention.
I had wanted to do something to help, but so far had not made any commitments. Now I feel like I have enough to keep me busy in October when Convention is held.
I have been doing some research on Hydroponic growing and think I am going to put together a simple experiment and see if I can grow some Romaine lettuce for salads. I have tried in soil, but it doesn't seem to be doing what I think it should, so I want to give Hydroponics a try. I will try to keep you updated with the progress. Hopefully it will be more productive and take up less space then the soil version I am using now.

I have also given wool dyeing a try. I used Wilton Food Coloring and got one batch of really nice colored roving and one batch of okay colored roving.
I like this green and blue roving.
This is okay, but will wait to see how it looks spun.
So, I believe that that brings us up to date so far. The outside right now looks nice, but is very deceiving...it is REALLY REALLY COLD! There is still ice clinging to some of the branches and longer weeds, the sparkle is nice, but the cold...not so much.
From my window I can see the tulips that have sprouted in my spring garden. It's a good sign, but we have a ways to go.
Time for breakfast and chores...Onward and upward!
